Reports from the New York Governor’s office that Malcolm X’s lawyer Percy Sutton has passed away. No reports of the cause of death for the 89 year old attorney.

Sutton was a World War II veteran having served in the battle as a member of the Tuskegee Airman.

Sutton established his law practice in the early 1950’s as was known for many years as the lawyer for the civil rights leader as well as for his family. Sutton also won an election to become the Manhattan borough president in 1966. This win was significant as it made him the highest ranking African-American in New York at the time.
