The Story & Review
A financial executive (Murphy) who can’t stop his career downspiral is invited into his daughter’s imaginary world, where solutions to his problems await.

So, Eddie Murphy is the new Jim Carrey, king of the screwball family comedy. I guess his foray into the world of serious drama began and ended with Dreamgirls. It’s Doctor Dolittle that sticks, not even the more sophisticated (!) comedy of Beverly Hills Cop or Trading Places.

Murphy has never really left the public eye, although his star fell a long way in the 90s. He’s always been a good box office draw, though, and I’m sure Imagine That will make moolah.

But he ain’t getting any of my cash for something that looks as though it might have been shopped to Will Ferrell, Carrey, or, in another decade, Dean Jones. Please, put away the cardboard cut-out cute kids who teach their vain, out-of-touch parents what’s really important in life.

Just give that kid a cookie, put her down for a nap, and remind her that daddy’s job may not be fun, but it puts the food on the table. Imagine THAT.
