The Story:
“Cayman Went,” a banal life-lessons drama, must have been a joy to produce. Set on sun-dazzled Cayman Brac, a small Caribbean island, the movie is awash in splendid sunsets, sapphire waters, adorable fauna and underwater dives of pellucid clarity. There are any number of reasons a group of filmmakers would choose so idyllic a locale to mount a production. Making an interesting movie, however, does not appear to have been one of them.

Mike Lombardi plays Josh Anders, a banal hunk with memorable and frequently exposed abdominal muscles and the star of a once-popular television show whose ratings are on the ebb. His agent arranges a meeting with a callous real estate mogul — is there any other kind? — with plans to open a resort in peaceful Cayman Brac, so Josh is enlisted to visit the island as a celebrity shill for the project.

Once there, he ingratiates himself with the locals in a bid to buy their property. There are crusty old-timers, a foxy dive-shop owner (Susan Misner) and a cute boy whom Josh teaches to swim. It’s all ever so adorable.

Needless to say, Josh is converted to the island ethos and sides with the common folk against his rapacious capitalist overlords.

“Cayman Went” is rated PG (Parental guidance suggested) for mildly suggestive material and mild language.
