Directed by Kirk Wong of Crime Story fame, the 1992 Golden Harvest production Taking Manhattan was shot in the United States with an international crew headed by producer Eric Tsang, and stars Golden Horse Best Actress Carrie Ng, Lui Chi Yin, Andrew Chan, and Alana Adena. The actioner is about Hong Kong cop Ho (Lui Chi Yin) and his wife (Carrie Ng) who decided to emigrate to New York City. Their new life is dealt a huge blow the day Ho reports duty to the NYPD, when his new co-workers are killed in a gang attack. Ho ends up selling hotdog at Times Square.
Meanwhile, his wife is befriended by wealthy businessman Mr. Chan and his wife, who teaches her how to make money in Manhattan. Ho, secretly recruited by the police as an undercover, is assigned to investigate Chan’s criminal background. The love and hate between two Chinese couples intertwine in Manhattan with deadly consequences…
