She became queen at 18, and her legendary romance and marriage to Prince Albert. Devastated by her husband’s death in 1861, she wore black for the rest of her life and remained largely secluded. Broadbent will play King William, Victoria’s uncle, while Richardson has been cast as the Duchess of Kent, Victoria’s mother. They join Emily Blunt as Victoria and Rupert Friend as her husband, Prince Albert.

In “The Young Victoria”, Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) delivers an incredibly appealing performance as Queen Victoria in the turbulent first years of her reign. Rupert Friend (Pride & Prejudice) portrays Prince Albert, the suitor who wins her heart and becomes her partner in one of history’s greatest romances. This love story, set amongst all the intrigue of the court, also features Paul Bettany (Iron Man, The Da Vinci Code), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Jim Broadbent (The Damned United, The Chronicles of Narnia), Thomas Kretschmann (Valkyrie), and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, Tristan & Isolde).

The Young Victoria is written by Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, Vanity Fair) and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (C.R.A.Z.Y.). Producers on the film are Graham King, Martin Scorsese, Tim Headington and Sarah Ferguson. Apparition will release The Young Victoria on December 18, 2009.

Synopsis: Director Jean-Marc Vallée takes the helm for this look at the turbulent early years of Queen Victoria (Emily Blunt), who was crowned at the age of 18, and whose ill-fated marriage to Prince Albert (Rupert Friend) would later prompt her into a life of mournful seclusion. Graham King and Martin Scorsese produce a film penned by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guideyoung1

Being a average 19 year old boy from england…it has surprised alot of people with my interest in history and more strangely in period dramas set in the history of a lot of countries. But this is still the case.

Firstly being english i have been able to watch and own this dvd for a long time now and can say that honestly this is one of the rare type of period dramas. although there is some issues with historical accuracy it is to be noted that in no way is this film a poor effort, in such it shows the young years of queen victoria very well and the relationship that she has with albert, in a way that keeps you involved and ingrossed in the film throughout.

the story is very good, outling the time of her reign up to the age where an attack was made on her life. Through this period we are able to see a growth in her stature of power and this is shown in a very organic and productive manner.

acting within this movie is top class stuff, this is a good thing as with any drama acting must be the best that it can be and this is very much the case. For me the stand out acting talents on show here are really paul betthany, probably my faviroute actor, and mark strong who does an amazing portrayal of the young victorias mentor and her bully, like, step father. Both performances are very strong and show that british actors can compete with any american equivilants.

Both the directing and the visual quality of this movie is very high. With sets and sequences shot with so much care it is a com     Rating:
Runtime:1 hour 44 minutes
plete feast to the eyes and shows that if a sequences should be shot then it should be shot to the best that it can.

overall i have to give it 4.25/5 but rounded up 4.5/5 jus hope they decide to make a sequel outlining her next years.
